Q: What computer labs are available?  What equipment can I find there?

A: There are 11 open computer labs on campus. (Click here for more information.) Equipment includes Dell Desktop computers, Hewlett Packard Laser Jet Printers, and scanners.  There are also staplers and 3-holepunchers.

Q: Where are the computer labs located?

A: Computer labs are located all over campus.  We have computer labs for some majors, computer clusters in the dorms, as well general computer labs for students.  (Click here for more information.)

Q: What software can I access?

A: Office Professional 2000 (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint), Word Perfect 9, Groupwise 5.5, Dreamweaver 3, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Personal Ancestral File, Acceleread, The Learning Equation, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Computer Based Training Player, Norton AntiVirus, Quick Time Player, Real Player, SSH Client, Teraterm.

Q: Where do I get my Username and Password?

A: Upon being accepted into BYU-Hawaii, you were sent a URL address to retrieve your Username and Password.  You can obtain your Username and Password by visiting http://w2.byuh.edu/directory/orient.htm.  By entering this website, you must agree to the policies, and then type in your last name and student ID number.  This will give you your Username and Password to log into the computers on campus. 

Q: What do I do if I forget or lose my Username or Password?

A: We highly recommend that you don’t lose either information, however on the rare chance that you do misplace or forget your Username and Password, come to ITS, behind the GCB 111 computer lab with your ID.   You can also retrieve your password by sending an email to netid@byuh.edu. Be sure to include your full name, and a daytime phone number.

Q: Why do I need a Username and Password?

A: Your Username and Password will allow you to log onto the computers in the computer lab, office, and access your university emaill. (Click here for more detailed information.)

Q: How can I log into the computers in the computer labs?

Q: Whom can I call if I need technical assistance? 

A:  If you are in the computer lab, you may ask the computer lab assistants.  If not, you can call the Information Technology Services (ITS) call center at (808) 293-3921 or create a ticket at http://its.byuh.edu/main2gold.htm.

Q: What kind of maintenance and repair service does BYU-Hawaii have for students on campus that own computers?

A: BYU-Hawaii currently, does not provide repair services for student’s computers.

Q: How can I hook my computer to the internet from my dorm room, TVA, or the Townhouses? How much will it cost?

A: 1. A full-time student, faculty, or staff living in areas where network ports are currently available makes a request at the ITS Call Center to have their network port activated. 2. Student signs the network access contract and ITS will encumber the student's account $48 each semester, and or $24 per term. 3. Network team activates the port and tests. 5. Housing Computer Support Representative will assist with troubleshooting upon request.

Q: How can I rent a computer on campus? How much will it cost?

A:1. A full-time student living in areas where network ports are currently available makes a request at the ITS Call Center to rent a computer. 2. Student signs the computer and network access contract and ITS will charge the student's account $80 per semester ($32 computer rental, $48 network port) and/or $40 per term. 3. Student can either take their computer with them at this point or a work order can be created, and the ITS moving company will deliver and set-up the equipment for $15. 4. Network team activates the port and tests. 5. Housing Computer Support Representative will assist with troubleshooting upon request.

Q: What type of computer can I rent and what software and programs will be available? 

A: Computer rentals are Compaq 6300 Desktop Pentium II machines with 128 megabytes, and a 3.2 gb hard drive. Computers will have the following software programs: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, and Groupwise 5.5.

Q: What are computer kiosks and where are they available?

A: Computer kiosks are machines that allows the public to check their email, view their grades, and register for classes. These machines are randomly located on campus. (Click here for more information.)

Q: What are telerooms and where can they be found?

A: A teleroom is a room that houses audi/video equipment that allows visual and auditory information to be presented in a classroom setting. Instructors may use a teleroom to present laptop computer presentations, video tape playbacks, or to view campus cable TV programming. A teleroom classroom contains a medium grade LCD projector, audio amplifier with speakers, VHS VCR, ceiling mount for projector, universal interface plate, equipment cable, attaching cables for laptop computers (MBC, audio and network), white board, and podium. Q: How can I borrow a computer for the time that I am in the library?

A: There are computers that can be checked out for use in the library for a two-hour period. Students can go to Media Scheduling, located next to the front desk to check-out the equipment. Computers are checked-out on a first come, first serve basis. (Click here for more information)
