Andrea Asuncion Sagisi, a leader in the Filipino community and founding member of the
Catholic Daughters of America-Hawai'i Chapter, died Jan. 23, 2003. She was 70. Sagisi
was born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, on Nov. 30, 1932. She
married former Bacarra Mayor Sabas Sagisi and the couple had one child, former
television news reporter Sandra Sagisi. In Hawai'i,
Andrea Sagisi worked for several financial institutions, including American
Security Bank, First Interstate Bank and First Hawaiian Bank. She retired from
First Hawaiian Bank's Lihu'e branch. In 1973, Sagisi was one of
five women who founded the Catholic Daughters of America in Hawai'i.
The organization has an estimated 150,000 members nationwide. Sagisi also served on the board of the United Filipino Community
Council of Hawai'i. She held leadership positions on the
Kaua'i Filipino Community Council, Kaua'i Filipino Women's Club and the Miss
Kaua'i Filipina Pageant. Sagisi is survived by her daughter,
Sandra; granddaughter, Ashley Moser; brother, Miguel Asuncion; and ex-husband,
Ricarte Tumacder.
