Maj. Gen. RUSSELL L. WALDRON, 94, died May 11, 2004. He was one of the few Hickam Field Pearl
Harbor survivors of the Dec. 7, 1941 attack, on base and in command of the
31st Bomb Group at the time. He also organized the efforts to locate and bomb
the Japanese fleet and was a pilot in the three aircraft bombing missions that
successfully bombed Wake
Island on June
28, 1942 and
returned to Midway island, a 13 hour flight and 2,100
nautical miles. Survived by wife, Ruth "Smitty"; daughters, Shirley
