Abara, Caryn Leanne  Caryn Leanne Abara of ‘Ele‘ele, died Sept. 1, 2005, at Queen's Medical Center at the age of 26. Born Jan. 10, 1979, in Lihu‘e, she was a customer service supervisor for Home Infusion. She is survived by her husband: Gerald Hurd; parents: Orlando and Carol Abara; sister: Rhonda (Kalani) Tranilla; grandmother: Mary Abara; nieces: Azlynn Abara and Kira Tranilla; nephews: Cody Tranilla and Deric Tranilla and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins. Abara, Felipe dela Cruz of Koloa died July 25, 2005, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 70. Born Aug. 23, 1934, in the Philippines, he retired from McBryde Sugar Company as a heavy-equipment mechanic, and also worked part time at Coco Palms Resort and the Hyatt Regency Kauai. He also served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife: Vickie E. Abara; two daughters: Lorna Mae (Guy) Takahashi and Michelle Abara; three sisters: Prisca Domingo, Anastacia (John) Martinez, and Columba (Rico) Rombaoa; three grand-children; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, at St. Raphael's Church in Koloa, where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. by Father Nap. Abts, John Kennedy Born January 18, 1964, in Hillsboro, Oregon, John graduated from St. Louis High School in Honolulu and California State University, Long Beach. He lived most of his life in Virginia and California and was long-employed as an area management specialist by a national retail firm in Los Angeles. More recently, he returned to Hawaii where he devoted his final years to teaching and slipped quietly away, February 10, 2005. A loving son, brother, uncle and friend, John is sorely missed by his parents, James D. and Patricia Hurd Abts; sisters, Karen Ketterman, Susan and Theresa Abts; brothers, Matthew and Martin Abts; nieces, Alexa and Colleen Brooks; nephews, Luke and Gabriel Brooks, and Jake Henry Abts; as well as the many relatives and friends whose lives were touched by his warmth and wit. Ahn, Samuel S. of Las Vegas Nevada, formerly of Ewa beach, Hawaii, passed away on February 12, 2005 at the Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was 90 years old. Sam was born on April 28, 1914 in Hoonaunau, Hawaii. He was proud to serve his country as a member of the United States Army. Sam retired from service in 1974 and returned home to Hawaii. Sam was a great fan of Las Vegas and moved there in 1990 to really enjoy his retirement. He was a strong man with a kind heart and a generous nature. Aki, Christopher Michael Age 57, passed away in his sleep on Friday, February 25th at home. He was battling several heart conditions, but he died peacefully and among his family. He lived with his brother, Steven, sister-in-law, Arlette, and mom, Jane L., and enjoyed taking care of his new grand-nephew Kainalu. Dad was born on April 2, 1947, in Honolulu, and spent some of his childhood being raised by his grandmother and aunties on Kauai. He returned to his family in Honolulu and settled in Papakolea, which was home to him until the end. He attended Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1965. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorene Kamaunu, and together they raised their daughter, Lori Lynne Mahinalani, in Kaneohe. He was a loving and loyal father and husband. Dad started at Worldwide Moving and Storage in 1971, and worked as a mover, warehouseman, and estimator, ending his career on November 2004. In 1993, Lorene and Chris opened their hearts and welcomed their hanai son, Kawika Aki-Vick, into the family. After 30 years of marriage, Christopher and Lorene separated and divorced, but maintained a close friendship. Dad loved doing things with his mom and 8 brothers and sisters, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Over the years there have been weekly poker and scrabble games, volleyball matches on Sunday afternoons, camping weekends, celebrations, and no-reason get-togethers. He would include new and old friends among his family circle, and he extended a quiet aloha to all. It mattered little to Dad whether a friend kept in touch daily, weekly, or yearly, he was a friend for life.
