CHARLES SALEH JABER Age 86, passed away May 16th at Kaiser, Moanalua Hospital. He retired from Hickam Air Force Base after 40 years of civilian service, and was on the Board of Directors with the Hickam Federal Credit Union for 43 years. Charles was an avid golfer all his life and found great joy in the sport as well as many lifelong friendships. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Sypher Jaber; daughter, Charlene (Clifton) Yamamoto; sons, Charles O. Dorothy Frances Jacintho, 72, of Kahului, died May 11, 2005, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was retired as a cashier for Ben Franklin. Theresa A. Jacintho, 93, of Haiku, died April 23, 2005, at Hale Makua, Kahului. Mary Elizabeth James, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa died April 29 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Muscatine, Iowa, she was an editor in the printing industry and member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and the Senior Core of Retired Executives. PETER F. JAMES March 4, 1915 - May 7, 2005 Francis Joseph Poglaze James was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 4, 1915, to Frank Leicaster James and Frances Lucy (Josephine) James. The James were in Hawaii because Peter's paternal grandfather, Dr. William James, had been appointed by President Teddy Roosevelt to be the Territory of Hawaii's first public health doctor on Quarantine island. Dr. James had ridden with Teddy Roosevelt's "Rough Riders" during the Spanish American War. Peter graduated from Punahou High School in 1932 and married Elizabeth (Wrigley) James in 1940. Peter was the head of Hawaiian Telephone Company's Maui operation until he was transferred to HTC's offices in Honolulu. He is said to have put through the call to the President of the United States which first reported the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Peter traveled the world many times over and loved to explore. He had an inquisitive mind, loved history, and was a great story teller. Peter's best stories were of his childhood in "old Hawaii" (when, for example, Waikiki was still a taro patch, pre-Ala Wai Canal). Peter moved back to Hawaii in November 2003 in preparation for his final "canoe trip." For approximately 20 years before that he had lived in Leavenworth, Washington, to be near his life long companion Mary Dodge. Peter was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Margaret ("Peg") Meyer. Peter is survived by his brother, Theodore ("Ted") James, and by his daughters, Roberta Elizabeth (Joe) Mathieu and Susan Frances James, all of the Big Island. He is also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and hanai son Robert Dodge of Peshastin, Washington. Peter will be sorely missed. Mahalo and deepest gratitude to everyone at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo for their surpassing gentleness and compassion during Peter's time with them, especially in his final days. Isabel Jardine, 79, of Kahului, died Feb. 16, 2005, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Virginia M. Jardine, 88, of Kahului, died Feb. 20, 2005, at Hale Makua, Kahului. Mrs. Jardine was born Feb. 25, 1916, in Hawaii. She was a salesperson. She is survived by a daughter, Eloise M. CASIMER JASINSKI Casimer Jasinski, M.D. lived in Honolulu since the early '60's. He was born in Jersey City, N.J. to Polish immigrants. His family was from Lvov, which is now in Russia. He spent the first ten years of his life in Poland, returning to the US with his family during the Depression. His mother opened a candy store, where he worked, learning a work ethic that he maintained throughout his life. As a teenager, he studied and worked with the emerging electronic industry which gave him an edge when he joined the Navy at the age of 18 to fight in WWII. He went to Navy Flight School and became a Navy Pilot, flying many missions in the Atlantic Theatre. He returned from war and with the GI bill went to college, became a chemistry major and then went on to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He met his wife, Doris, in medical school and they were married shortly after graduating in the mid-50's. He traveled the United States as an officer and Navy Doctor, Until he made his way to Guam in the early 60's. His young family enjoyed the island life and they moved to Hawaii after two years in Guam. Casimer loved to swim. He loved the ocean and the beach life in Honolulu. He worked in several local hospitals, including Queens, St. Francis, Kuakini and Kaiser. He went on to become the FAA Regional Flight Surgeon for the Pacific Region for the Federal Government. The peace and serenity of the tropics suited him and he raised his family in Honolulu where his two children attended and graduated from Punahou School. ap3 Dr. Jasinski worked in the Hawaii Air National Guard as their physician checking out the pilots for their flight physicals. He taught many extension classes for the HANG and UCLA in their health programs. He was a Civil Defense worker and got a degree in the School of Public Health at the University of Hawaii. He worked on Wake Island, Midway island, and participated in various programs supporting the Pilot community in the Pacific, and the health programs for the US military. After taking early retirement during Reagan's tenure as President, Cas devoted himself to enjoying his family, his grandchildren and his many friendships with various people in Honolulu. His hobby was the management of his real estate interests, and he established a condominium project in Manoa Valley before he moved to the shoreline at Waikiki to spend his many golden years on that warm, sun-kissed strand from Diamond head to Ala Moana. Cas passed away on March 16, 2005, after battling cancer bravely for several years. he is survived by his wife of 52 years, his two children, John Paul Jasinski and Mary Ann McAndrew--a union member in the IATSE local 665--his three grandchildren, Nicola Grissom, Margaret and John McAndrew, Jr., his son-in-law, Billy McAndrew--a union member in the SUP--and three nephews who all live on the mainland. G. KEVIN JOHNSON Age 52, of Honolulu, died July 24, 2005. He was born in Glen Cove, New York, attended college in Santa Fe, and then moved to Los Angeles, where he graduated from the UCLA School of Law. He later lived in San Francisco and most recently, Honolulu. During his lifetime, he was a talented software engineer and attorney. Kevin was a gifted guitarist and singer, composing may original songs. He had a large extended family, composed of not only those from birth, but also those included by marriage and friendship. Although he had no children of his own, he was blessed with five godchildren, and he lovingly influenced the lives of many other children along the way. Kevin was a voracious reader and had a brilliant mind. He was a pilot and scuba diver, an avid player of chess and dominoes, and he loved rollerblading, skiing, and many other activities. He sustained an avid interest in many intellectual and athletic areas and hobbies throughout his lifetime, and he included the children he loved in many of these pursuits. He particularly loved traveling and learning about other cultures, and in so doing he continued to expand his family circle. Kevin is survived by his loving wife Julie Wo, his mother Ferne Johnson, sister Faith Landwer, brother Rollin Johnson, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many other loving friends and family across the country. Wallace Dean Johnston May 15, 1924 - January 15, 2005 Died Saturday in his home in Lanikai with his family around him. Wally graduated from the University of Oklahoma in engineering as a commissioned naval officer. He worked as a civil engineer throughout the Pacific, first for the Navy and after for the Civil Aeronautics Administration. In 1953 he began working for the Hawaiian Electric Company and retired after 40 years as a civil/mechanical engineer. His lifetime interests were flying, hiking, woodworking and family.
