Assistant
Coach Harry
Maxwell
Harry
Maxwell has been assisting with the BYU-Hawaii basketball program since 1985 on
a volunteer basis and is now a regular assistant. No one is better suited to be
involved in the operation of the BYU-Hawaii basketball program or more passionate
about the team. He is excited about the prospects for the team and looks forward
to helping take the team to a higher level of success. As one of the Seasiders
most ardent supporters, Maxwell was one of the founders of the Seasider Booster
Club.
A native of Paris, Kentucky, Maxwell came to Hawaii in
1961 as a member of the 25th infantry stationed at Schofield Barracks. While in
Hawaii, he met and married the former Manuosefusi Moe of Faleniu, American Samoa.
She passed away in December of 2004.
From 1961-63 Maxwell was
stationed in Southeast Asia as a combat engineer. After being discharged in 1964,
Maxwell and his family moved back to Kentucky for two years before returning to
Hawaii in 1966.
Maxwell was the receiving manager at BYU-Hawaii
from 1980 until his retirement in 1999. He has seven children: Dean, Harry Jr.,
Ralph, William, Molly, Fusi and Mahala.
Coach Wagner says,
“Harry is fun to have around and he’s so loyal to the program. It’s nice to have
people who support the program like Harry.”
