Basketball Polls
The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's basketball team is primarily concerned with two polls, one governed by the NCAA II and the other by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The NCAA II poll that affects the Seasiders is the Pacific Region Poll and is released bi-weekly beginning midway through the season and continuing until the NCAA II tournament selections are made. The NABC Poll, which began this season and replaces the DII Bulletin Poll is a national poll and is released weekly beginning with the preseason and ending after the NCAA II tournament selections are made. The NCAA II conducts regional polls throughout eight regions of the nation. These eight regional polls determine which teams receive bids to the NCAA II championship tournament at the end of each season and, consequently, are the most important of the polls.
The Pacific region poll is determined by the vote a committe selected by the NCAA. The top eight teams in the final regional poll will be invited to the Pacific Regional Tournament of the NCAA II Championships. The NABC Top 25 is conducted by a group of eight coaches representing each region. It is not affiliated with the NCAA or its regional rankings. BYU-Hawaii's first appearance in the NCAA II national poll was on February 4, 2003. The Seasiders were ranked 20th in that poll. BYU-Hawaii's highest ranking in the poll, to date, came on December 21, 2004 when the Seasiders were ranked 9th. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
