Season | January 26, 2007 Peterson Leads Narrow Win
Kaneohe, HI-Junior guard Paul Peterson scored a career-high 26 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds to lead the Brigham Young University Hawaii men's basketball team to a hard-fought, 74-70 win over Hawaii Pacific tonight in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 14-5 for the season and 6-1 in the PacWest, led by ten points, at 67-57, with just over four minutes to play but the Sea Warriors battled back to close the gap to 72-70 with 14 seconds remaining in the game. Sophomore Trenson Akana went to the free throw line for the Seasiders just a second later and calmly hit both free throws to ice the win for BYU-Hawaii. Peterson nailed four three-pointers and was 8-14 from the field in the game. He also dished out two assists and came up with three steals. He scored 17 of his points in the second half as the Seasiders rallied from a 34-32 halftime deficit. Eric Boyce also hit four three-pointers for the Seasiders and finished with 12 points and two assists. Freshman Junior Ale tallied nine points and Lucas Alves and Wu Tai-hao each netted eight for the Seasiders. Jermaine Odjegba came off the bench for BYU-Hawaii to snatch five rebounds, make three steals, and block two shots in the win. Mickey Wheeler scored 18 points for Hawaii Pacific and Kamron Alborz added 17 as the Sea Warriors dropped to 1-6 in the PacWest and 7-11 overall. BYU-Hawaii will face UH-Hilo on January 31st at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie at 7:30 pm HST. |
