Seasiders Win

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team ran past the Honolulu Flyers tonight, 114-86, in an exhibition game at the Cannon Activities Center. The Seasiders raced to a 63-35 halftime lead and cruised to their third win of the exhibition season.

Sophomore Lucas Alves scored 30 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in just 24 minutes of play to lead the Seasiders to the win. Alves hit 10-15 from the field, 2-2 from three-point range, and 8-8 from the free throw line as he dominated play. Junior Nathan Sims came off the bench for 19 points and nine rebounds, including 5-5 from the line, and senior guard Paul Peterson tallied 16 points for the Seasiders. Trenson Akana scored 12, Nick Holladay 11, and Jermaine Odjegba ten to give the Seasiders six players in double figures in the game. Corey Nielson dished out 11 assists to go with eight rebounds, six points, and four steals for BYU–Hawaii and Jeremy Brown grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists in the win. The Seasiders out-rebounded the Flyers 53-24 in the game and garnered 23 offensive rebounds.

Geremy Robinson and Wendell Rush each scored 17 points to lead the Flyers while Justice Sueing had 15 points.

The Seasiders open the regular season on November 30th at a tournament hosted by Central Washington in Ellensburg. BYU–Hawaii will face Western Oregon to open the tournament at 5:00 pm PST.
