Season | November 25, 2006 Seasider Men Remain Undefeated
Hilo, HI-The Brigham Young University Hawaii men's basketball team scored on two dunks to start the game and ran up a 12-2 lead in the first two minutes and 12 seconds of play and then spent the rest of the game holding on to the lead to defeat Ft. Lewis tonight, 72-66, on a neutral court in Hilo. The Seasiders, now 5-0 for the season, appeared ready to run away from the Skyhawks from Colorado in the early going but never got the lead past 12 points in the first half nor ten points in the second period despite leading for the entire game. Ft. Lewis cut the deficit to just a single point at the 13:47 mark of the second half and again with just 1:05 to play but five BYU-Hawaii free throws ended the game for the final margin. Freshman Lucas Alves and sophomore Wu Tai-hao each scored on dunks to start the game and ended up leading the scoring for BYU-Hawaii with 20 and 15 points respectively. Alves shot 9-12 from the field and grabbed four rebounds while Tai-hao led the Seasiders with six caroms. Eric Boyce scored ten points off the bench including the last two critical free throws in the last minute for the Seasiders. Jeremy Brown also hit two free throws in the last minute and totaled eight points and three assists off the bench. Corey Nielson led the Seasiders with four assists and also netted seven points while Paul Peterson snatched four steals to go with eight points for BYU-Hawaii. Tim Bieri led Ft. Lewis, now 2-1 for the season, with 21 points. Devon Manning scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Skyhawks. BYU-Hawaii will travel to Utah to take on Dixie State College on Wednesday, November 29th in St. George at 7:30 pm MST. |
