Alves All-Academic

Lucas Alves flies high in the classroom as well as on the court at BYU-Hawaii

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii’s Lucas Alves was honored today with a spot on the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team for District VIII, which comprises the Western United States. The district honor automatically puts Alves on the national ballot which will be voted on next week.

Alves, a sophomore from Casa Branca, Brazil, holds a 3.71 grade point average and is majoring in exercise and sport science at BYU–Hawaii. A First-Team All-Pacific West Conference and the conference Freshman of the Year last season, Alves is averaging 20.5 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game for the Seasiders this season.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program is the foremost program in the nation for recognizing academic and athletic achievement by student athletes. It is administered and voted on by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).
