BYUH Falls to Grand Canyon

Paul Peterson (shown in earlier action) matched his career high with five steals tonight

Phoenix, AZ-The Brigham Young University Hawaii men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Grand Canyon team tonight and fell to the Antelopes, 89-79, in Pacific West Conference action. Grand Canyon hit eight of 11 shots from the three-point line in the second half to pull away to the win and move to within just one game of the Seasiders in the conference standings. BYU-Hawaii leads the PacWest with a 9-2 mark and is 17-6 overall while the Antelopes stand at 7-2 in the conference and 11-7 overall.

Tonight's game was a see-saw affair throughout the first half and halfway into the second period before Grand Canyon took control with a 17-5 run sparked by four three-point bombs that turned a 56-53 BYU-Hawaii lead into a 70-61 Antelope advantage. The Seasiders could get no closer than three points the rest of the game.

Lucas Alves and Wu Tai-hao each scored 14 points to lead the Seasiders. Eric Boyce and Trenson Akana each hit a pair of three-pointers and tallied ten points in the game. Paul Peterson added nine points, six assists, four rebounds, and five steals to the BYU-Hawaii effort.

Devon Greene nailed five threes and scored 26 points to lead Grand Canyon. Rich Davis hit four threes and totaled 22 points for the Antelopes. Bryan Lee also reached double figures with ten points.

BYU-Hawaii will play Grand Canyon again tomorrow with first place on the line at 7:00 pm MST in Phoenix, Arizona.
