Season | February 8, 2007 BYUH Falls to Antelopes Again
Phoenix, AZ-The Brigham Young University Hawaii men's basketball team lost to Grand Canyon tonight, 78-67, in Pacific West Conference action, knocking the Seasiders out of first place in the conference. Grand Canyon used a 12-point advantage from the free throw line to drop the Seasiders to 9-3 in the PacWest and 17-7 overall and moved ahead of the Seasiders in the conference standings by percentage points. Grand Canyon now holds an 8-2 mark in the conference and is 12-7 overall. Just as they did last night, Grand Canyon took a narrow halftime lead, at 39-35, and gradually increased the margin throughout the second half. The Seasiders did manage to take a brief lead, at 51-50, six minutes into the second half, but the Antelopes went on a 7-0 run and were never headed after that. Lucas Alves scored 17 points and grabbed ten rebounds for his third double-double of the season to lead the Seasiders. Paul Peterson added 13 points, four assists, five rebounds, and two steals for BYU-Hawaii while Eric Boyce tallied eight points in the loss. Corey Nielson and Trenson Akana each scored seven points in the game. Rich Davis hit five three-pointers and was a perfect 13-13 from the free throw line to lead Grand Canyon with 30 points. Devon Greene scored 16 and Jason Stromvall 13 for the Antelopes. BYU-Hawaii will travel to Belmont, California to take on Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday at 2:30 pm PST. |
