Seasiders Drop Sea Warriors

Danny Jackson goes up for two of his seven points in tonight's win over HPU

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University Hawaii men's basketball team finished up the regular season with a 72-51 victory over Hawaii Pacific tonight in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, playing before the largest crowd of the season on senior night, got half their points off the bench in a balanced attack and led from start to finish in improving to 20-7 for the season and 12-3 in the PacWest. BYU-Hawaii, ranked seventh in the most recent West Regional rankings, will now wait to see if they get an expected NCAA II tournament bid on Sunday.

Senior Eric Boyce capped his home career at BYU-Hawaii by knocking down four three-pointers in four attempts and scoring a game-high 14 points to lead the Seasiders to the win. Paul Peterson and Corey Nielson each tallied ten points for BYU-Hawaii and Peterson dished out a game-high six assists while Nielson grabbed a game-high seven rebounds and came up with four steals in the game. Danny Jackson scored seven points and had six rebounds in his final regular-season game as a Seasider. Junior Ale tallied nine points and Lucas Alves scored eight with six rebounds for BYU-Hawaii. Wu Tai-hao and Jermaine Odjegba each blocked three shots for the Seasiders.

Mickey Wheeler scored ten points to lead Hawaii Pacific. The Sea Warriors ended their season with a 10-17 overall record and a 4-11 PacWest mark.

The NCAA II National Tournament field will be announced Sunday evening and the Seasiders will then learn when and whom they play should they make the field.
