Seasiders Ranked 25th in Poll

Lucas Alves and the Seasiders hope to move up in the polls this season

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s basketball team will open the season as the 25th-ranked team in NCAA II play according to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II poll released recently. The Seasiders, who were picked as the pre-season favorite in the Pacific West Conference coaches’ poll, received 30 points in the poll to become one of ten teams that were not ranked in last year’s final poll to open the season in the top 25.

BYU–Hawaii finished with a 20-8 record last season and earned a berth in the NCAA II National Tournament where they lost a close game in the first round. The Seasiders return three starters from last year’s squad, including All-PacWest First Team selection Lucas Alves and senior guards Paul Peterson and Corey Nielson. The Seasiders open the regular season against Western Oregon on November 30th in Ellensburg, Washington as part of the Central Washington Tournament.
