Smith Runs in Nationals

Ashland, Ohio- Brigham Young University-Hawaii cross country runner Chelsea Smith finished 57th out of 154 contestants today in the NCAA II Cross Country Championship Meet. Running in the cold and snow, the freshman walk-on completed the 6K course in 23:26.

Smith Sets New Record

Fresno, CA- BYU-Hawaii freshman Chelsea Smith set a new school record for the 6K as she finished fourth at the NCAA II West Regional cross country meet today. Smith, a walk-on to the team this year, cut 11 seconds off the school record with her time of 22:13 and qualified for the NCAA II National Championships to be held in two weeks in Ashland, Ohio.

Seasiders Outrun Silverswords

Laie, HI- The BYU-Hawaii harriers defeated Chaminade today in a dual men's and women's cross country meet. The Seasider men won a narrow 26-29 victory while the women won easily 19-38.

Seasiders Place Third

Kaneohe, HI- BYU-Hawaii's Chelsea Smith and Steve Soelberg each finished fifth for the Seasiders in the Hawaii Cross Country Sprint Series in Kaneohe this morning to lead their teams to third place in their respective meets. The race also served as the Hawaii Division II Championships.

Runners Set Records

Laie, HI- BYU-Hawaii's Steve Soelberg may have only finished seventh at the Hawaii Pacific Invitational this past weekend but he ran well enough to put himself at the top of the Seasider record book. Soelberg's time in the 10K race was 34:15, eight seconds better than the previous best at BYU-Hawaii. Kyle Briggs owned the previous mark, set last year at the NCAA II Regional.

HPU Invitational Results

Kaneohe, HI- BYU-Hawaii's Chelsea Smith and Namea Curtis finished second and fifth respectively for the Seasiders in the HPU invitational in Kaneohe this morning. Smith finished with a 22:0 in the 6K race and teammate Curtis came in at 24:11. Overall the Lady Seasiders finished second with a team score of 47. Hawaii Pacific received 21 to take first place honors with Sayuri Kusutani completing the race in 21:33. Chaminade received third tallying 90 points. UH-Manoa totaled 114 for fourth and Irvine Valley College finished with 142 for fifth.

Seasiders Third

Laie, HI- The BYU-Hawaii harriers finished third in both the men's and women's races at the BYU-Hawaii Invitational cross country meet today. Hawaii Pacific dominated the meet, sweeping the top five men's places for a perfect team score and placing five women in the top ten to win easily.

UH Big Wave Challenge Results

Ka'a'awa, HI- The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's and women's cross country teams ran to fifth and eighth-place finishes, respectively, today in the University of Hawaii Big Wave Challenge. The meet included a total of thirteen schools including UCLA, who won both the men's and women's events.

Seasiders Take Second in Hilo Invitational

Hilo, HI- Tommy Jordan and Chelsea Smith finished third and fourth, respectively to lead the Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's and women's cross country teams to second-place finishes in today's Hawaii-Hilo Invitational. Hawaii Pacific earned top honors in both races.

Seasider Harriers Open Season

Laie, HI- The BYU-Hawaii harriers kicked off the cross country season today in the Chaminade Invitational with the men finishing second and the women third in the team competition. Hawaii Pacific claimed top individual honors in both the men's and the women's race yet was edged by the University of Hawaii women in the team results.
