September 7, 2002Seasider Harriers Open SeasonLaie, HI- The BYU-Hawaii harriers kicked off the cross country season today in the Chaminade Invitational with the men finishing second and the women third in the team competition. Hawaii Pacific claimed top individual honors in both the men's and the women's race yet was edged by the University of Hawaii women in the team results. Hawaii Pacific's men dominated their race, taking six of the top seven spots. Christian Madsen won the men's race in 26:59. BYU-Hawaii's Tommy Jordan kept the Sea Warriors from having a perfect score by crossing the line in the fifth spot. Steve Soelberg placed ninth for the Seasiders. The Seasider men finished second with 63 points. They were followed by Hawaii-Hilo with 76 points and Chaminade with 82 points. BYU-Hawaii's Chelsea Smith led the Seasider women with a seventh place finish. Namea Curtis placed 12th while Sabrina St.Laurent and Anne Hopkins finished 15th and 16th to lead the Seasiders to a third place finish.
