October 26, 2002Seasiders Outrun SilverswordsLaie, HI- The BYU-Hawaii harriers defeated Chaminade today in a dual men's and women's cross country meet. The Seasider men won a narrow 26-29 victory while the women won easily 19-38. BYU-Hawaii's Chelsea Smith breezed to a 1:44 victory in the women's 5K portion of the meet. Smith ran the flat course in 18:05 to outpace teammate Namea Curtis who finished second. Seasiders Anne Hopkins and Melissa Flake finished fourth and fifth, following the Silverswords' Leilani Kaluhiokalani-Myers. In the men's 8K race, Chaminade's Jeff Lim took individual honors with a 27:11 time. He was followed by a trio of Seasiders as Steve Soelberg (27:27), Tom Jordan (27:57) and Pelikani Aho (28:11) claimed the next three spots for BYU-Hawaii. Chaminade's Hanson Hsu was fifth, followed by teammates Frank Dabrowsky and Andrew Williams, but BYU-Hawaii snared the next two spots, with Scott Carter and Steve LoForti picking up the points, to give the Seasiders the team victory.
