Seasiders Finish Fifth

Turtle Bay, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament today at Turtle Bay’s Palmer Course. The Seasiders shot a team total of 321 today on the par 72 course to outpace sixth-place Hawaii Pacific by ten shots.

The Seasiders’ Josh Coon turned in the day’s best round for BYU–Hawaii with a 77 for a final total of 239 and a tie for 17th place overall. Kyle Kunioka carded an 80 to finish at 242 in 20th place and Brandon Van Dyke finished a stroke behind him in a tie for 21st place after an 80 today gave him a 243 total. Brett Puterbaugh shot a 90 today to end up tied for 27th at 251 and Neal Manutai moved up a notch to 32nd place after today’s 84 left him at 265 for the tournament. BYU–Hawaii’s Derek Hall, playing as an individual due to an earlier injury, shot an 80 today to tie Coon for 17th place at 239.

UH-Hilo came from three strokes back to take the team title over defending champion Grand Canyon 902 to 908. Dixie State moved up to third at 932 while Notre Dame de Namur finished just ahead of the Seasiders with a 954 total. Chaminade trailed Hawaii Pacific for the final spot in the tournament.
