Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team dropped a 4-2 match to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical today to fall to 1-1 for the season. The score was tied 1-1 at halftime but the visiting Eagles tallied three times in the second half while holding the Seasiders to just a single goal despite 11 shots on goal in the half. Vicente Gomez put Embry-Riddle on the board in the ninth minute of the game on a crossing kick from the right side. BYU–Hawaii’s Brian Noguera tied the game in the 23rd minute with an assist from Ben Stevens. The Seasiders out shot the Eagles 9-3 in the first half and 20-9 for the game but couldn’t get the ball in the goal often enough. Rodrigo Chaves put the Eagles ahead to stay in the 65th minute and Andre Kiss scored the first of his two goals for Embry-Riddle in the 73rd minute. Noguera countered for the Seasiders with a penalty-kick goal in the 80th minute but Embry-Riddle answered with Kiss’ second goal in the 89th minute to provide the winning margin. Doug Hansen recorded one save in goal for BYU–Hawaii in the first half. He was replaced for the second half by Javier Vaca who also got one save. Jakob Horstmann got five saves for Embry-Riddle. BYU–Hawaii will face La Verne tomorrow at 2:00 pm HST in Laie. |
