Seasiders Take Two From Silverswords
Laie, HI-Brigham Young University-Hawaii freshman pitcher Kassiopeia
Hood pitched a one-hit shutout today to lead the Seasiders to a 1-0 victory
over Chaminade. In the second game, Juanita Vega drove in two runs and
then scored a run to help the Seasiders defeat the Silverswords, 3-1 and
complete the doubleheader sweep.
Hood (1-4) only faced 24 batters in seven innings and picked up her first
win of the season. The Seasiders scored the winning run in the bottom
of the fourth inning when Susanna Wilcox singled through the right side
of the infield to score Vega from second base. Vega scored two runs and
drove in two of the four runs the Seasiders scored today. All four Seasider
runs were unearned.
In the bottom of the third inning of game two, Vega hit a two-out single
down the left field line to score Alisha Durrette and Maggie Reynolds.
Vega scored from second base when Jillian Umeda, the Silverswords' second
baseman, misplayed Lyza Halas' hit.
Tracy Bonomi (4-1) was on the mound for the Seasiders in the second game
and won her fourth game of the season. Bonomi survived a scare in the
top of the fifth as the Silverswords loaded the bases for pitcher Melissa
Marquez with one out. Marquez singled in one run, but cleanup hitter Loihi
McKeague got out on an infield fly rule and Kimberly Balles popped up
to the catcher.
The Seasiders' record moves to 6-10, 3-3. They will host HPU tomorrow
at 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
