Hood Throws Shutout in Snow

Billings, MT- The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women's softball team split a doubleheader with Montana State-Billings today, losing the first game 7-1 before taking the second game 4-0 behind a two-hitter by pitcher Kassiopeia Hood.

Hood pitched her third shutout of the season, and third victory, despite a temperature in the low 30's and a light snowfall. Hood struck out six and walked just two. The Seasiders backed her with a pair of runs in the third inning without getting a hit by taking advantage of four walks in the inning. Shortstop Crystal Elton added an RBI triple in the fifth and first baseman Andrea Anderson drove in the final run with a single in the sixth inning.

BYU-Hawaii held a 1-0 lead in the first game until the Yellowjackets exploded for six runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game. MSUB's Theresa Campbell hit a solo homerun in the fifth to complete the scoring and give the Yellowjackets their first victory of the season and first-ever Pacific West Conference win.

BYU-Hawaii moves to 9-18 for the season and 2-8 in the PacWest. MSUB improves to 1-15 overall and 1-13 in the conference. The two teams will meet in a doubleheader again tomorrow.
