Cold Seasiders Drop Two

Billings, MT- The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women's softball lost both ends of a doubleheader with Montana State-Billings today, losing the first game 5-3 before dropping the second game 1-0 in eight innings despite a second consecutive strong pitching performance from freshman Kassiopeia Hood.

Hood, who pitched her third shutout of the season yesterday, lost her second 1-0, eight-inning game of the season. She had the same hard-luck result against UH-Hilo in Hilo earlier this month. Hood gave up only three hits in the game, played in ice-cold temperatures amid falling snow, but the last one, by opposing pitcher Joey Ehnes drove in the winning run with two out in the bottom of the first extra inning. The Seasiders managed only a pair of singles against Ehnes in the contest.

BYU-Hawaii held a 3-1 advantage through five innings in the opening game, but allowed the Yellowjackets to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the win.

BYU-Hawaii drops to 9-20 for the season and 2-10 in the PacWest. MSUB improves to 3-15 overall and 3-13 in the conference. The Seasiders will travel to Silver City, New Mexico next to square off against conference leader Western New Mexico in a pair of doubleheaders on Monday and Tuesday.
