Head Coach • Jackson Mapu

Brigham Young University Hawaii Head Softball Coach Jackson Mapu is in his ninth season at the helm of the Seasider softball program. He spent two years as an assistant before being promoted to the top spot just prior to the end of the 1999 season. Previously, he was the softball coach at Kahuki High School on Oahu. During his time in the dugout at BYU–Hawaii Mapu has won 114 games, making him the winningest coach in the history of the program. One of the most well-liked coaches in the business, Mapu is known for his dedication to his players and the game of softball.

Born in Samoa, Mapu has lived in Hawaii and California but spent his junior high and high school years in Louisiana. After high school he attended Northwestern State in Louisiana and studied business. He spent six years in the Air Force as a civil engineer, serving in Wichita Falls, Texas, Korea, and at Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix, Arizona. Since 1991 he has been employed at BYU-Hawaii in various capacities. Currently he works in the school's physical plant department.

Mapu and his wife, Cussana, are the parents of five children but their household is larger than that as they also have four of their nieces and nephews living with them as well as Cussana's mother. Mapu currently serves as the second counselor in the Bishopric of the BYU-Hawaii First Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a single-student ward on campus.
