Seasiders Break Out the Bats in Two Wins Today

Laie, HI—The Lady Seasider softball team broke out their bats today and managed to drive in 16 runs in two victories today winning the first game 7-2 over visiting Wisconsin-Stout, and the second game of the double-header 9-1 in a run shortened game.

The Seasiders managed 10 hits in the first game victory as starting pitcher Betty Ann Doering completed 5 innings while giving up only 2 runs, and pitcher Crystal De la Cruz came in for relief and finished off the win giving up zero runs in the final two innings of play. Leslie Fester had a strong game at the plate going 3 for 4 on the game while driving in one RBI and scoring two runs.

BYU-Hawaii started off the second game on the right foot when lead-off batter Melissa Lehano homered to start the inning and the offense continued as the Seasiders had 14 hits in the win. Katrisha Veazie pitched the one run six-inning win in the night cap, and also homered in the game to help her team out on the scoreboard. Several Seasiders had strong at bats but Kimberly Artiaga’s perfect 3 for 3 hitting on the day while driving in one run and scoring twice herself was a key contributing factor to the win. Kahea Bethan also had some good at bats driving in three runs on two hits, the first being an RBI double down the line and the second was a two run single to center field to end the game due to the 8 run rule.

The Seasiders will hit the road later this week to face the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts in a four game series this weekend the 20th and 21st before heading to St. George to take on Dixie State the 24th and 25th of March.
