Three Volleyball Players Honored

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team placed three players on the Pacific West Conference All-Conference Teams announced today. Senior outside hitter Noelle Filimoeatu and junior setter LeeAnn Mapu were both named to the All-Conference First Team for the second year in a row while junior middle blocker Faylynn Merrick made the Second Team.

Seasiders Finish with Sweep

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team closed out the season tonight by defeating Chaminade 3-0 in Pacific West Conference action to clinch second place in the conference. The Seasiders, who finish with a 13-9 overall record for the season and a 9-5 mark in the PacWest, took control early in the match and claimed a 30-19, 30-11, 31-29 win over the Silverswords.

Seasiders Fall to Silverswords

Honolulu, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team came tantalizingly close to a win tonight but ultimately fell to Chaminade 3-2 in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 12-9 for the season and 8-5 in the PacWest, failed to score on three match-point opportunities against the Silverswords before losing 18-30, 30-28, 30-19, 30-32, 14-16.

Seasiders Blast HPU

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team dominated Hawaii Pacific tonight in Pacific West Conference action, winning 30-16, 30-16, 30-19 and holding the Sea Warriors to a negative .008 hitting percentage. The Seasiders, now 12-8 for the season and 8-4 in the PacWest, hit .250 for the match and blasted 61 kills while limiting Hawaii Pacific to just 19 kills in three games.

Seasiders Blow Past Argonauts Again

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Notre Dame de Namur tonight in Pacific West Conference action for the second time this week to strengthen the Seasiders’ hold on second place in the conference. The Seasiders took every game by the same score, winning 30-22, 30-22, 30-22, to improve to 11-8 overall and 7-4 in the PacWest while dropping the Argonauts to 8-16 overall and 5-6 in the conference.

Seasiders Blast Argos

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team blasted Notre Dame de Namur by 16 points in the opening game of the match and rolled to a 30-14, 30-22, 30-22 victory tonight in a Pacific West Conference battle for second place in the standings. The Seasiders, who trailed the Argonauts by a half game in the PacWest to start the night, played one of their best matches of the season to leap-frog the Argonauts for the conference’s second-best mark. BYU–Hawaii improved to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in the PacWest with the win while dropping the Argos to 8-14 overall and 5-4 in the conference.

BYUH Downed by Vulcans

Hilo, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team lost 3-0 to UH-Hilo tonight in a non-conference match on the road. The Seasiders, who came within a point of upsetting the Vulcans last night, came up just short in all three games tonight, losing 30-27, 30-25, 30-27 to fall to 9-8 for the season.

Seasiders Fall Short

Hilo, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team came within a point of knocking off conference leader UH-Hilo tonight in an important Pacific West Conference match but the win slipped through their grasp as they lost 30-24, 26-30, 30-17, 30-32, 10-15. The win gives the Vulcans a three-game lead over the Seasiders in the conference standings.

Seasiders Hold Off Rebels

St. George, UT–Senior outside hitter Noelle Filimoeatu hammered a career-high 29 kills to lead the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Dixie State this afternoon in a Pacific West Conference match. The Seasiders, who swept the Rebels in three straight games last night, appeared on their way to another sweep after taking the first two games today handily. However, Dixie State fought back to force a fifth game before the Seasiders prevailed 30-18, 30-25, 27-30, 26-30, 15-8.

Seasiders Sweep Rebels

St. George, UT–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team pulled away at the end of each game to sweep Dixie State tonight 3-0 on the road in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the PacWest, broke open each game with a closing flourish to take a 30-24, 30-23, 30-24 win.

Seasiders Drop One to Antelopes

Phoenix, AZ–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team lost 3-1 on the road tonight against Grand Canyon in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the PacWest, came back from a first-game loss to take the second game and even the match at 1-1, but fell just short in the next two to go down 26-30, 30-28, 31-33, 26-30.

Seasiders Squeak Past Grand Canyon

Phoenix, AZ–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team went the distance on the road tonight with Grand Canyon in Pacific West Conference action before coming away with a 23-30, 30-19, 30-22, 22-30, 16-14 victory. The win marked the second straight road win in conference play for the Seasiders as they improved to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Get Determined Win

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team played from behind most of the night but still managed to sweep Hawaii Pacific 3-0 tonight in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders trailed by six points in game one, five points in game two, and again by six points in game three, but roared back each time to take a 30-27, 30-28, 30-25 victory and improve to 6-5 for the season and 2-1 in the PacWest.

Balance Wins for BYUH

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team got back on track tonight with a 3-0 win over Chaminade in Pacific West Conference play. The Seasiders, now 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the PacWest, used a balanced attack with five players knocking down eight or more kills to hand the Silverswords just their second loss of the season, 30-25, 30-14, 30-23.

Seasiders Fall to Vulcans

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team lost to a aggressive UH-Hilo squad tonight, 3-0, in the Pacific West Conference opener for both teams. The Seasiders, now 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the PacWest, fell behind early in the first game and played catch-up most of the night as the fell 30-23, 30-25, 30-23.

Seasiders Outlast Alumni

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated the alumni tonight, 30-24, 30-22, 26-30, 27-30, 15-5, in an exhibition match celebrating 29 years of BYU–Hawaii volleyball.

Seasiders Swamp Gators

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team cruised through a quick win tonight over Green River Community College of Auburn, Washington, taking three straight games, 30-11, 30-11, 30-19. The Seasiders held the visitors to a negative .071 hitting percentage as they romped to the win in the exhibition match.

Seasiders Drop Out of Top 25

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team fell out of the top 25 and was listed among “other teams receiving votes” in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll.

Seasiders Fall to #4 Tritons

Laie, HI–The 19th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team ran up against a hot, fourth-ranked UC San Diego squad tonight and fell to the Tritons 30-27, 30-18, 30-28 to fall to 4-4 for the season. The Seasiders, who played a long, five-game match against Cal State-Stanislaus that ended just three hours earlier today, put up a tough fight against the Tritons but couldn’t quite come up with a win.

Moeai Sets Record in Win

Laie, HI–Freshman libero Keisha Moeai shattered the school record for digs tonight as the 19th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team prevailed in a tough, five-game battle with Cal State-Stanislaus, 30-19, 30-27, 20-30, 33-35, 15-11 at the Hawaii Invitational Tournament. Moeai came up with 39 digs to break the old record by six and the Seasiders needed every one of them to overcome the scrappy Warriors.

BYUH Loses Close One

Laie, HI–The 19th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team put up a battle tonight in their home opener before suffering a narrow defeat at the hands of Northwest Nazarene in the Hawaii Invitational Tournament. The Seasiders rallied twice from a game down in the match, winning the second game and then taking the fourth, but couldn’t quite pull out the win as the visiting Crusaders prevailed 30-24, 28-30, 30-26, 28-30, 15-12.

Seasiders Down Sonoma

Honolulu, HI–The 19th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team defeated Sonoma State today in the opening match of the Hawaii Invitational Tournament. The Seasiders came from behind in the first game and never looked back as they took three straight from the Seawolves, 31-29, 30-20, 30-23, to improve to 3-2 for the season. The loss drops Sonoma State to 2-3 for the season.

Seasiders Split a Pair

Pomona, CA–The 19th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team earned a split of their final two matches at the CSULA/CPP Tournament today, defeating California (PA) 3-1 in their first match of the day before suffering a narrow, 3-2 defeat at the hands of host Cal Poly-Pomona in the final match of the day. The Seasiders opened the day by rallying from a first game loss against California (PA) to claim a 21-30, 32-30, 30-23, 30-23 win. After taking to the court again a scant two hours later, the Seasiders succumbed to Cal Poly-Pomona 30-25, 23-30, 18-30, 30-27, 6-15.

Seasiders Fall to 17th-Ranked CSULA

Los Angeles, CA–The 19th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team battled 17th-ranked Cal State-LA in a tight match tonight before falling on the Eagle’s home floor by a 3-1 score as part of the CSULA/CPP tournament. The Seasiders took the first game by a 30-27 margin before dropping the final three games 21-30, 27-30, 27-30. With the loss, the Seasiders fall to 1-1 for the season while the Eagles improve to 2-0 on the year.

Seasiders Open with Win

Los Angeles, CA–The 19th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team started the new season on a winning note today, defeating Central Washington 3-1 in the opening match of the CSULA/CPP Tournament today. The Seasiders, 1-0 for the year, came from behind to take the first game 30-28, and then claimed a 30-24 win in game two. The Wildcats rebounded to win game three 30-21 but the Seasiders took control early in game four and closed out the match with a 30-27 victory.

Seasiders Tabbed as PacWest Favorites

Honolulu, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team was given the frontrunner’s position in both team and individual honors in the Pacific West Conference according to the preseason coach’s poll released today. The Seasiders were picked to win the conference by six of the seven league coaches and Junior setter LeeAnn Mapu was given the nod as preseason Player of the Year for the conference.

Seasiders Ranked 19th

Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team holds down the 19th spot in the Division II national preseason rankings released today. The Seasiders received 272 points in the poll after finishing last season with a 20-1 record and being ranked 15th in the final poll of the year.
