Seasiders Squeak Past Grand Canyon

Phoenix, AZ–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team went the distance on the road tonight with Grand Canyon in Pacific West Conference action before coming away with a 23-30, 30-19, 30-22, 22-30, 16-14 victory. The win marked the second straight road win in conference play for the Seasiders as they improved to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest.

Senior outside hitter Noelle Filimoeatu blasted 19 kills to lead the Seasiders while Agnes Tuilevuka knocked down 18 in the win. Tanza Buroker, Faylynn Merrick, and LeeAnn Mapu all chipped in eight kills with Buroker hitting .500 and Mapu .462. Mapu led the defensive effort with 19 digs, Keisha Moeai and Filimoeatu came up with 17 digs each, and Tuilevuka had 13. Merrick put up three blocks to lead the way at the net with Filimoeatu, Buroker, and Ane Vea each getting two blocks. Buroker and Nyoka Peniata each served a pair of aces for the Seasiders.

Dana Edington had 19 kills to lead Grand Canyon, now 3-11 for the season and 0-3 in the conference. Shea Robinson had 15 kills and five blocks while Katie Meyrs had 29 digs to lead all players.

BYU–Hawaii will face Grand Canyon again tomorrow night in Phoenix, Arizona at 7:00 pm MST.
