Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team dominated Hawaii Pacific tonight in Pacific West Conference action, winning 30-16, 30-16, 30-19 and holding the Sea Warriors to a negative .008 hitting percentage. The Seasiders, now 12-8 for the season and 8-4 in the PacWest, hit .250 for the match and blasted 61 kills while limiting Hawaii Pacific to just 19 kills in three games.

BYU–Hawaii’s defense kept the Sea Warriors off balance throughout the match, coming up with 62 digs and putting up eight blocks. The Seasiders held Hawaii Pacific’s leading hitter, Antje Buskies to just one kill in 30 attacks and didn’t allow a single Sea Warrior to reach double figures in kills. The Seasiders also received serve very well, allowing only one ace in the three games to a Hawaii Pacific team that came into the match averaging 2.15 aces per game.

BYU–Hawaii broke away from an early 4-4 tie in game one, racing out to a 15-9 lead and kept building the lead higher throughout the game. Game two saw Hawaii Pacific take a 6-4 lead before the Seasiders ran off a string of 14 straight points to put the game out of reach. Game three was tied at 6-6 early on but once again BYU–Hawaii went on a tear to take an 18-8 lead and squelch any ideas the Sea Warriors entertained of getting back into the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Agnes Tuilevuka started the night slowly, with just two kills in the first game, but caught fire in the final two games and finished with a career-high 20 kills to lead the Seasider attack. Noelle Filimoeatu nailed her first four kills of the match from the back row before finishing with 15 for the match and freshman Tanza Buroker matched her career high with ten kills. Setter LeeAnn Mapu, picking her spots with precision, put away eight kills in 11 attempts with no errors for a sparkling .727 hitting percentage and distributed 43 assists to her teammates in an excellent all-around performance. Buroker led the way at the net defensively with two solo blocks and five blocks overall. Freshman libero Keisha Moeai dug up 18 Sea Warrior attacks while Tuilevuka came up with 13 digs and Filimoeatu and Nyoka Peniata got 11 apiece.

Kelly Balanay had seven kills to lead Hawaii Pacific, now 10-13 for the season and 4-7 in the PacWest. Libero Charly Sampaga led the Sea Warriors with 23 digs and Balanay and Buskies got seven and six blocks respectively.

BYU–Hawaii will face Chaminade next on November 3rd at 7:30 pm in Honolulu.
