| October 5, 2007 Seasiders Sweep Rebels
St. George, UT–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team pulled away at the end of each game to sweep Dixie State tonight 3-0 on the road in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the PacWest, broke open each game with a closing flourish to take a 30-24, 30-23, 30-24 win. The Seasiders scored seven of the last eight points in the first game to break away from a 23-23 tie. The second game followed suit as BYU–Hawaii pulled away from a 21-20 margin by scoring nine of the last 12 points of the game. Then in game three the Seasiders did it again, turning up the steam from a 21-21 tie to tally nine of the last 12 points of the match. Sophomore outside hitter Agnes Tuilevuka knocked down 14 kills while hitting .312 to lead the Seasiders. Noelle Filimoeatu and Faylynn Merrick each pounded down ten with Merrick hitting at a .350 pace. Junior setter LeeAnn Mapu put away nine kills with no errors in 13 attempts for a .692 hitting percentage and put up 36 assists as well. Merrick added four blocks as part of her night’s work for the Seasiders. Four Seasiders reached double figures in digs led by Keisha Moeai with 17. Nyoka Peniata added 16 digs and Filimoeatu and Tuilevuka chipped in 15 and 13 respectively. Peniata, Tuilevuka, and Tanza Buroker each served two of the Seasiders’ eight aces in the match. No one reached double figures in kills for the Rebels, who fell to 4-15 overall and 2-3 in the PacWest with the loss. Taya Langston and Mariesa Nielson each had eight kills for Dixie State while Cami Johnson and Elizabeth Stephens each got 11 digs. BYU–Hawaii out-hit the Rebels .206 to .086 in the match. BYU–Hawaii and Dixie State will play again tomorrow in St. George, Utah at 3:00 pm MDT.
