| August 24, 2007 Seasiders Fall to 17th-Ranked CSULA
Los Angeles, CA–The 19th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team battled 17th-ranked Cal State-LA in a tight match tonight before falling on the Eagle’s home floor by a 3-1 score as part of the CSULA/CPP tournament. The Seasiders took the first game by a 30-27 margin before dropping the final three games 21-30, 27-30, 27-30. With the loss, the Seasiders fall to 1-1 for the season while the Eagles improve to 2-0 on the year. Senior outside hitter Noelle Filimoeatu knocked down 18 kills to lead the BYU–Hawaii attack and also picked up a team-high 23 digs on the night. Sophomore outside hitter Agnes Tuilevuka put away 15 kills and made 20 digs to aid the Seasider cause while junior setter LeeAnn Mapu put up 45 assists and had 11 digs. Junior middle blocker Faylynn Merrick led the Seasiders at the net with five blocks while freshmen Tanza Buroker and Shelby Pierson put up four and three respectively. Freshman libero Keisha Moeai helped out defensively with 13 digs and senior Nyoka Peniata added 12 digs. In game one the Seasiders broke away from a 22-22 tie behind a pair of Tuilevuka kills and went on to the win. The Eagles came back with a strong game two to even the match before outlasting the Seasiders in a pair of close games for the match win. Kha Tara Steen led CSU-LA with 19 kills and five blocks. Three other players finished in double figures in kills for the Eagles and Lindsay Laakso had 22 digs in the win. BYU–Hawaii will meet California (PA) tomorrow at 3:00 pm PDT at Cal Poly-Pomona as the tournament continues and will face host Cal Poly-Pomona tomorrow evening at 7:00 pm PDT.
