Laie, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team cruised through a quick win tonight over Green River Community College of Auburn, Washington, taking three straight games, 30-11, 30-11, 30-19. The Seasiders held the visitors to a negative .071 hitting percentage in the exhibition match.

Freshman Tanza Buroker knocked down ten kills, served three aces, put up five blocks, and hit .381 to lead the way for the Seasiders. Fellow freshman Shelby Pierson blasted nine kills and hit .421 while senior Noelle Filimoeatu also put away nine kills and had 14 digs. Junior Faylynn Merrick added eight kills for the Seasiders and sophomore Brianna Chang came up with 26 digs to lead the defense. Ane Vea contributed four blocks for BYU–Hawaii while Pierson added three. Junior setter LeeAnn Mapu had 35 assists in the three games.

Kyle Hagen got nine kills to lead Green River. Hanna Merritt had 12 digs and Hagen 10 as the Gators opened the season 0-1

BYU–Hawaii will play an exhibition match against the Seasider alumni at 7:30 pm HST next Thursday in Laie.
