Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team put up a valiant rally but fell just short tonight, losing a hard-fought game against Hawaii Pacific, 70-68, in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 2-13 overall and 2-4 in the PacWest, trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half but rallied to tie the game with 1:34 to play only to see the Sea Warriors pull out the win. Shaina Siliga hit a three-pointer for the Seasiders to tie the score and with Sea Warrior star Ashley Jenkins on the bench after fouling out the Seasiders’ hopes were high. However, Lauren Lawson hit a pair of free throws to put Hawaii Pacific back in front for good. BYU–Hawaii got some good looks at the basket but misfired and the Sea Warriors hit five of six free throws down the stretch to put the game away. Siliga hit a jumper with 19 seconds left and a three-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin. Richelle Fenenbock scored 15 points to lead the Seasider attack and Siliga finished with 13, including three three-pointers. Lei Lolohea chipped in with ten points for BYU–Hawaii. Fenenbock and Agnes Tuilevuka each nabbed six rebounds for the Seasiders while Siliga and Hoku Holdcraft each grabbed five as BYU–Hawaii out-rebounded the Sea Warriors 48-43 for the game. Siliga also led the team with four assists and Fenenbock came up with three steals. Jenkins had 20 points and five assists to lead Hawaii Pacific, now 3-13 overall and 3-4 in the PacWest.
