Seasiders Lose to Dixie

St. George, UT—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost for the second night in a row on the road tonight against Dixie State, 86-66, in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 2-15 overall and 2-6 in the PacWest, led 18-16 with 12:43 to play in the first half but were outscored 25-2 over the ensuing 11:42 and could never recover from the run.

BYU–Hawaii trailed 43-24 at the half and never got the margin back to single digits in the second half as Dixie State improved to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in the PacWest. The Seasiders, as they did last night, suffered from too many turnovers, giving up the ball 32 times, including 15 turnovers during the Rebels’ first-half run that put the game out of reach. BYU–Hawaii did manage to out-rebound the Rebels for the second time, pulling down 46 boards to just 38 for Dixie State.

Richelle Fenenbock nailed four three-pointers and was a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line as she led the Seasiders with 21 points. She also pulled down five rebounds and made three steals. Agnes Tuilevuka dropped in 12 points and grabbed ten rebounds for a double-double for the Seasiders while Felisita Ika added ten points for BYU–Hawaii. Lei Lolohea finished with nine points and seven rebounds and Amanda Watts totaled six points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Jessica Carver scored 25 points for Dixie State while Jessica Jones had 12 and Courtney Boyd ten. Carver also led the Rebels with eight rebounds.

The Seasiders’ next action will be at home in Laie against UH-Hilo on February 2nd at 5:30 pm HST.
