Seasiders Lose to Top Team

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team put up an early fight against the top-ranked team in the country today before North Dakota pulled away from the smaller Seasiders on their way to a 71-37 victory in a non-conference game. The Seasiders trailed just 11-9 five-and-a-half minutes into the game but couldn’t sustain the effort against the unbeaten Fighting Sioux.

BYU–Hawaii trailed 37-18 at halftime and saw the deficit reach 40 points in the second half before the Seasiders scored the last six points of the game. With the loss, BYU–Hawaii fell to 0-5 for the season while North Dakota improved to 10-0 for the year.

Amanda Watts scored ten points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Seasiders. She also had two of BYU–Hawaii’s seven assists. Agnes Tuilevuka chipped in with seven points and three rebounds while Sara Nielson and Madison Kite each tallied four points for the Seasiders.

Ashley Langen and Whitney Ledger each scored 17 points to lead North Dakota. Kierah Kimbrough scored 15 and had eight rebounds and Val Sannes added ten points. North Dakota, with six players measuring six feet or taller, out-rebounded BYU–Hawaii 46-23 in the game.

BYU–Hawaii will face Oklahoma Panhandle on Monday at 12:00 pm in Honolulu as part of the Hoop ‘N Surf Tournament.
