Seasiders Struggle Down the Stretch

Richelle Fenenbock (shown in earlier action) led all scorers with 22 points in today's game

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team lost a hard fought game to the Colorado School of Mines 69-62. Richelle Fenenbock’s three point shot put the Seasiders (0-8) up 52-50 with less than six and a half minutes to play, but the Orediggers’ (6-4) shooting, 47% for the game, was too much for the Seasiders’ 34% down the stretch.

Colorado School of Mines controlled most of the first half coming in at the intermission with a 33-24 lead. BYU–Hawaii started out the second half strong and began chipping away at the lead. The Seasiders tied the game at 43 with a 10-4 run. The game then went back and forth with ties and lead changes until Peanut Eickelman hit a three pointer to bring the Orediggers ahead, 54-52 and they did not surrender the lead again.

Agnes Tuilevuka had a big night scoring 14 points and leading the Seasiders defensively with eight rebounds, four blocks, and three steals. Fenenbock led all scorers with 22 points, including three from long range and Felisita Ika tossed in 12 points.

The Orediggers had three players scoring in double digits, Blakelee Midyett, Stevie Hagemeister, and Peanut Eickelman with 11, 10, and 10 respectively. Brecca Gaffney led in rebounding for the game with nine.

BYU–Hawaii women’s basketball will be back on the court on December 29th at 4:00 pm on the Brigham Young University Hawaii Campus in Laie.
