Seasiders Fall to Nanooks

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team got off to a slow start, falling behind by 24 points at the half, but showed signs of improvement in the second half before losing 73-48 to Alaska-Fairbanks tonight in non-conference action. The Seasiders trailed by as many as 40 points in the second half before battling back but ultimately fell to 0-4 on the season while the visiting Nanooks improved to 5-1 overall.

BYU–Hawaii shot just 18 percent from the floor in the first half, but improved to 33 percent in the second period while holding the Nanooks to 32 percent after intermission. Junior Hoku Holdcraft came off the bench to can ten points in the second half to lead the Seasiders in scoring. Sophomore Amanda Watts led the Seasiders to a 48-37 advantage in rebounds for the game with ten caroms to go with her eight points. Felisita Ika, seeing her first action since returning from an injury, scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds and Agnes Tuilevuka snared eight rebounds and dished out a team-high six assists while getting four steals. Freshman Richelle Fenenbock tallied nine points, grabbed six rebounds, and made three steals for the Seasiders.

Sheena Brown had 16 points to lead four Nanooks in double figures. Sarah Herrin had 15 points, Kari Reabold 13, and Cristina Bruketta 12 for Alaska-Fairbanks.

BYU–Hawaii will face North Dakota on Friday at 1:00 pm in Laie with the game to be played in the Seasiders’ old gym due to Saturday’s graduation exercises.
