Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team picked up their second win in a row as they defeated Chaminade tonight, 69-53, in a Pacific West Conference road game. The Seasiders, now 4-15 overall and 4-6 in the PacWest, scored first, on a put-back by freshman Madison Kite, and never trailed in the game as they defeated the Silverswords for the second time this season. BYU–Hawaii broke the game open midway through the first half, going on a 17-0 run that turned a 15-12 game into a 20-point, 32-12 Seasider lead. Agnes Tuilevuka scored six points in the run and Richelle Fenenbock five and the Seasiders’ defense forced four turnovers during the five minute blitz. Chaminade cut the lead to 36-20 at halftime and got the lead to single digits three times in the second half but BYU–Hawaii responded each time and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way. Tuilevuka scored 21 points to lead the Seasiders in scoring and also grabbed 11 rebounds and came up with five steals and three blocked shots to continue her stellar play in recent games. Kite scored a season-high 14 points and matched that with 14 rebounds, the best performance on the boards this season for the team. Seven of Kite’s rebounds came on the offensive glass and she also made four steals in her best game of the season. Fenenbock finished with 14 points and dished out a season-best eight assists. Shaina Siliga came off the bench to match Fenenbock with eight assists as both players matched the school record set last season by Kayla Burningham for assists in a game. Marian Murphy hit five three-pointers and scored 15 points to lead Chaminade, now 0-19 for the season and 0-12 in the conference. Katharine Carlisle added ten points for the Silverswords, who shot just 27.3 percent from the field compared to the Seasiders’ 40.8 percent. BYU–Hawaii also out-rebounded Chaminade 57-39 for the game. The Seasiders will face Hawaii Pacific on Saturday in Honolulu at 5:30 pm HST. |
