Seasiders Fall to Sea Warriors

Honolulu, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s basketball team fell victim to a hot-shooting Hawaii Pacific squad tonight and fell 81-67 to the Sea Warriors in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 4-16 for the season and 4-7 in the conference, out-rebounded the Sea Warriors 39-25 in the game but got out-shot 51.9 percent to 44.6 percent and were out-scored at the free throw line 24-14.

BYU–Hawaii led for much of the first half before Hawaii Pacific rallied to take a 35-30 lead into the locker room. The Seasiders cut the lead to two early in the second half only to see the Sea Warriors pull away to a double-digit lead. BYU–Hawaii rallied, however, to narrow the margin back to two points at 58-56 with 6:24 to play, but Hawaii Pacific pulled away and scored their last 12 points from the charity stripe to seal the win.

Freshman Madison Kite, in her second strong performance in a row, scored a season-high 15 points to lead BYU–Hawaii. She also pulled down six rebounds, five of them on the offensive glass. Agnes Tuilevuka finished with 13 points and seven rebounds while Shaina Siliga came off the bench to score ten points and grab four boards. Katie Bowser also came off the bench to drop in eight points and hand out a team-high three assists for the Seasiders. Richelle Fenenbock scored nine points and made two steals for BYU–Hawaii.

Ashley Jenkins scored 21 points to lead Hawaii Pacific, now 6-15 overall and 6-6 in the PacWest. Angela Spence had 17, Karras Blate and Jocelyne Norris 12 each, and Emily Kreutter ten for the Sea Warriors.

The Seasiders will face Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday in Laie at 5:30 pm HST.
