The Lady Seasiders are Pacific West Conference Champions

November 3, 2007

Seasiders Win PacWest Title

The Seasiders have more than just a goal to celebrate today

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team claimed the Pacific West Conference championship today without playing a match. The Seasiders won the title when UH-Hilo defeated Dixie State 1-0 on the Big Island.

Dixie State’s Rebels needed a win to claim the conference championship for themselves, but they stumbled against the third-place Vulcans, opening the door for the Seasiders. BYU–Hawaii completed their conference season with Friday’s win over Notre Dame de Namur with a 10-2 record. Dixie State’s loss dropped them to 9-2-1 for the conference campaign and UH-Hilo ended at 9-3 in the PacWest.

BYU–Hawaii’s championship comes in just the second year of the women’s soccer program. Last year the Seasiders finished second in the conference. Unfortunately, the PacWest does not have an automatic bid to the NCAA II Regional Tournament so the Seasiders will have to wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the six-team tournament. BYU–Hawaii was ranked eighth in the most recent regional rankings voted on last week.
