September 22, 2007Seasiders Defeat Defending Champs
Belmont, CA—Freshman Natasha Aiono scored twice today to lead the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team to a 2-1 Pacific West Conference victory over Notre Dame de Namur. The Seasiders, now 5-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the PacWest, won for the fifth time in a row since losing to highly ranked UC San Diego and, with three tough conference road wins, appear to be in the driver’s seat for the conference crown. Aiono struck twice within a very short time in the first half. She scored on a crossing pass from Hailey McKee in the 16th minute and followed in the 17th minute with another goal off a free kick pass from Jill Haar. The Seasider defense made the advantage hold up by yielding just a single goal in the 81st minute on a long shot by Sally Olsson. BYU–Hawaii out shot the host team 12-10 for the game and Seasider goalie Becky Ploeger tallied two saves in the win. BYU–Hawaii will face Cal State-Monterey Bay on Tuesday in Monterey, California at 12:30 pm as part of their five-game road trip. |
