April 9, 2008 Seasiders Win Twice
St. George, UT—The number-one-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team dominated two Pacific West Conference opponents today, defeating Grand Canyon 6-0 in the morning and then overwhelming Notre Dame de Namur 7-0 in the afternoon to improve to 23-0 for the season. The Seasiders swept every match that was completed in the two wins and were leading in all the other matches when play was halted by agreement. The wins put the current BYU–Hawaii winning streak at 83 dual matches. In the morning match against Grand Canyon, the Seasiders’ Elwen Li and Maggie Deng took an 8-0 win at number one singles that was matched by Jenny Chin and Ayako Ikeda at the third doubles spot. Ramona Husaru and Becky Lu won their match at number two doubles by an 8-2 score. Li, Deng, and Chin then finished off the win for the Seasiders with identical 6-0, 6-0 whitewashes at numbers one, two, and four singles respectively. The afternoon match against Notre Dame de Namur was all BYU–Hawaii. The Seasiders won at number three doubles and number six singles by default and lost just a single game in sweeping the five singles matches that were played. Li, Chin, Ikeda, and Shenley Searing each won 6-0, 6-0 at numbers one, three, four, and five singles while Deng took a 6-0, 6-1 win at the second spot. The top two doubles matches were not played at all. The Seasiders will play next in the Pacific West Conference tournament which begins tomorrow in St. George, Utah. BYU–Hawaii is heavily favored to win the tournament.
