May 14, 2008 Seasiders Blast Drury
Houston, TX—The top-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team opened defense of its national title with a 5-0 rout of 25th-ranked Drury today at the NCAA II National Championship Tournament. The Seasiders swept all three doubles matches handily and then picked up easy wins at number one and number five singles to roll to the 5-0 win and improve to 27-0 for the season. BYU–Hawaii has won 87 consecutive dual matches during its latest winning streak. The Seasiders’ top-ranked doubles tandem of Elwen Li and Maggie Deng breezed to an 8-0 win at the top doubles spot and Becky Lu and Ramona Husaru took an 8-3 win at number two doubles while did Jenny Chin and Ayako Ikeda won 8-1 at the third doubles spot to stake BYU–Hawaii to the early lead. Li then romped to a 6-1, 6-0 win at number one singles while Chin blasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the fifth singles slot to secure the victory. BYU–Hawaii was leading in the other four singles matches when play was halted. The Seasiders now advance to the NCAA II National quarterfinals where they will face 15th-ranked West Florida at 9:00 am tomorrow in Houston, Texas.
