Prospective Students

What to prepare?

  1. Carry your important documents (passport, I-20, etc.), and US currency in a small bag or pouch that is with you at all times. 
  2. Keep a copy of BYU-Hawaii’s contact information on you while traveling just in case of emergency.  International Student Services can be reached directly at (808) 293-3516, or via fax at (808) 293-3525. 
  3. If possible, carry coins in US currency (or smaller bills) when you travel to make any necessary phone calls. 
  4. Before leaving, confirm your arrival and pick-up arrangements at the airport.
  5. Hawaii’s weather generally stays between 70-87 degrees F.  Bring clothing that is suitable for tropical weather, with a light jacket for the winter seasons which bring rainier days and cooler evenings.

What to do when you arrive?

  1. Check into your dormitory or housing facility.
  2. Visit the Health Center to get your clearance for the TB test.
  3. Register your arrival on campus with your legal documents (I-20, passport, etc) at the International Student Services office in McKay 181.
  4. Go to the Student Activities office in the Aloha Center for your student ID.  (ID card is required for meals in the cafeteria.)
  5. If you arrive on a weekend or holiday and the offices are closed, please see the dorm-mom or Resident Assistant for more information.
