Lupe Piena is of Tongan descent, born in Provo, Utah and raised in Laie, Hawaii. Also an alumna of BYU-Hawaii, Lupe graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English before serving a mission in the Micronesia Guam Mission. Since marriage did not come by as she had hoped after her mission, she pursued a joint degree in Public Administration and Law from BYU-Provo. She graduated in 2000 and then returned home to Laie. Since joining the International Student Services office in 2004, Lupe has worked with the mentoring program for international students. Several innovations spear headed by the mentoring effort include International Forums and fieldtrips. She is optimistic about helping others, and passionate about understanding people from different countries and backgrounds. With her background in law, she is eager to learn the intricate details of immigration proceedings in order to help students more efficiently. Her ambitious goals for international education and effective mentoring are supported by her loving husband, M. Keola Piena and their four children. |
